Pneumonia

ACONITE 30, 200

It is the remedy of the remedies in the first stage of pneumonia and may be used if the symptoms call for it. The symptoms are:

High fever preceded by a chill, caused by dry cold air or draught of cold air while in a perspiration.

The skin is hot and dry without moisture upon it.

There is a hard, dry and painful cough. The expectoration is thin, watery, tinged with blood, but not thick,

Pulse hard quick and small. Great restlessness and tossing about anxiety and perhaps fear of death.

The great indication for Aconite is sudden onset, especially if it occurs in young and robust, plethoric persons.

It is usually followed by Bryonia.

FERRUM PHOS. 30

Like Aconite this remedy also is useful in the first stage of pneumonia.

Like Aconite if there is any expectoration, it is thin, watery and blood-streaked.

High fever oppressed and hurried breathing and the expectoration is scanty and blood-streaked.

Fer. Phos lacks the restlessness and anxiety of Aconite, burning and brain symptoms of Belladonna and intense thirst of Phosphorus.

It stands midway between Aco. and Gels.

BRYONIA 6, 30

Bryo. is probably our most frequently useful remedy in pneumonia. It finishes the disease better than any other remedy and comes after Aconite and Ferrum Phos.

The fever continues, but the skin is not as hot and the face not as red and the patient not as restless as in Aconite.

The cough is hard and painful.

The sputum is scanty and thick, yellowish or streaked with blood.

Sharp stitches in the chest, worse by least motion and breathing and better by lying on painful side, because this lessens the motion of that side.

Every breath causes pain.

Patient dreads to cough and holds his chest firmly.

Constipation, stool dry, hard, dark.

Phosphorus most commonly follows, Bryonia in pneumonia and is complementary.

VERATRUM VIRIDE 6, 30

It is useful in the beginning of pneumonia. In the beginning of pneumonia, it competes with Aconite.

Patient suffers from pneumonia.

Suddenly and violently, due to exposure to cold or heat of sun rays.

There is high fever, rapid pulse (hard, quick, small indicates Aconite)

Faints on rising.

White or yellow tongue with red streak, along the center of the tongue.

Sputa containing large masses of blood.

Constant burning, distress in cardiac region.

Heart’s beat loud, strong and at the same time respiration is difficult.

It is not indicated when hepatization has taken place.

ANTIMONIUM TARTARICUM 6, 30

It is useful in pneumonia when mucus rales are heard clearly in the chest.

There are sharp stitching pains and high fever as under Bryonia.

Sickly, sunken, pale, bluish face, covered with cold sweat.

PHOSPHORUS 30

Hard, dry, tight cough. Cough first dry and tight and then with expectoration of a transparent, viscid, purulent.

There are mucus rales, labored breathing, sputa, yellowish with blood streaks or rust colored, salty, sweet, cold.

Thirsty for cold water.

SANGUINARIA 6, 30

Fever with flushed cheeks.

Burning and fullness in the upper chest. Sharp, sticking pains more on the right side.

Cough ceases as soon as patient passes flatus.

Tongue red and burning.

CHELIDONIUM 6, 30

It is useful in pneumonia with bilious symptoms—-jaundice, yellow coated tongue, profuse bright yellow or clayey diarrheic stools and stitching pain in right lung going to right scapulae.

Other important symptoms are

Severe chill followed by fever.

Great and oppression of the chest.

Cough, loose and rattling, but the expectoration is not easily raised.

Fan-like motion of the alae nasi.

KALI CARB. 30

  1. C. is more similar to Bryo. than any other remedy in the symptom of sharp, stitching pains in the chest.

Pains are worse by motion, but unlike Bryonia these pains come whether the patient moves or not.

Pains are more in the lower part of the right lung. Cannot lie on right side (Bryo. lies on affected side).

Stitching pains, chiefly in the walls of the chest, especially in lower third of right lung, going through the chest to back.
