HOMEOPATHY FOR ACANTHOSIS NIGRICANS

214

Acanthosis nigricans is a skin condition that typically affects the armpits, groin, and neck. It is characterized by areas of dark, velvety discoloration in body folds and creases, as well as thickened skin.

Children who develop the condition have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and it can also be brought on by medications like nicotinic acid used to treat hyperlipidemia. Rarely, acanthosis nigricans can be a sign of a cancerous tumor in an internal organ, such as the stomach or liver.

Etiology

The following have been linked to acanthosis nigricans:

Insulin resistance, which is what ultimately results in type 2 diabetes and is present in the majority of people with acanthosis nigricans.

• Hormonal conditions: People with cysts, hypothyroidism, or issues with the adrenal glands are more likely to develop acanthosis nigricans.

High-dose niacin, birth control pills, prednisone, and other corticosteroids are among the medications and dietary supplements that may contribute to acanthosis nigricans.

Acanthosis nigricans can also develop alongside lymphoma or when a cancerous tumor starts to spread inside an internal organ like the liver, colon, or stomach.

Clinical features

Dense, thick, brown patches of skin with a velvety texture that can appear anywhere but are most frequently found in the folds of the neck, groin, and armpit.

On cutaneous and mucosal surfaces, papillomatosis (various finger-like growths) is frequent.

Skin tags are frequently discovered in and near affected areas.

Pruritis (itching) is a possibility, especially in cases of acanthosis nigricans linked to cancer.

Lesions of acanthosis nigricans can also develop on the esophagus, nasal, laryngeal, and oral mucous membranes.

Use Echinacea lotion to wash the lesion if it has any unpleasant odors.

Diagnosis

Skin examinations frequently reveal the presence of acanthosis nigricans; however, additional tests may be required to identify the underlying cause.

· A biopsy

· Blood tests

· X-rays
