Pemphigus vulgaris is a severe skin condition that affects the mouth, genitals, and any other part of the body. It is a rare condition that is characterized by the development of blisters and erosions of the skin and mucous membranes. The blisters, which are frequently called bullae or bulla, are filled with thin, watery fluid that eventually bursts, sloughs off, and causes sore spots.

CAUSES OF PEMPHIGUS VULGARIS

Although the exact cause of pemphigus is unknown, it is known that the condition is an auto-immune disease in which the body’s immune system misrecognizes its own protein, called desmoglein protein, and responds by causing severe inflammation, blister formation, pain, and soreness.

SYMPTOMS OF PEMPHIGUS VULGARIS

The mouth, scalp, and trunk are the most frequently impacted areas.

  • Blisters on the skin are followed by painful mouth sores and blisters.
  • Peeling of skin
  • Crust formation

DIAGNOSIS OF PEMPHIGUS VULGARIS

  • A trained eye makes the best clinical diagnosis.

  • Positive Nikolsky’s sign is when the skin easily separates when the unaffected area’s surface is rubbed with a fingertip or a cotton ball.

  • A biopsy of the skin or mouth reveals an intra-epidermal vesicle that was formed as a result of the epidermal cells breaking.

  • ELISA test – This test allows for the detection of anti-desmoglein antibodies in blood.

HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT FOR PEMPHIGUS VULGARIS

Homeopathy is strongly indicated in the majority of cases of pemphigus as a support measure, which helps not only to manage the disease better, but also helps to reduce the dependency of cortisone. The treatment is totally dependent on the present complaint collected by proper case taking. The results with homeopathy may not be as drastic and quick as probably with the use of cortisone.
