Anaemia, which affects adults and children of both sexes although pregnant and adolescent girls are more commonly affected, is the condition when there is a decrease in number of red blood cells (RBCs) or less than the normal quantity of haemoglobin in the blood. Normal levels of haemoglobin in females are 12.1 to 15.1 gm% and in males are 13.8 to 17.2 gm%. Anaemia may be caused by diet.
