The Zika virus, also known as Zika or Zika virus disease, is a mosquito-transmitted viral infection that primarily affects tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The majority of Zika virus infections are asymptomatic, but some patients may experience mild fever, rash, and muscle pain.

Causes of Zika Virus
The virus was discovered in the Zika Forest in Uganda in 1947, but outbreaks have since been reported in southeastern and southern Asia, the Pacific Islands, and the Americas. The Zika virus is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected aedes species mosquito, which is widespread throughout the world.
The Zika virus enters a mosquito after a person who has been infected with it bites it, and when that mosquito bites another person, the virus travels to that person’s bloodstream.
During pregnancy, a fetus can contract the virus as well.
Transfusions of blood and sexual contact have both been reported to spread the virus.
Complications

Congenital Zika syndrome, which includes the following birth defects, may also be brought on by the zika virus:
- extremely small head size and partially collapsed skull
- loss of brain tissue and brain injury
- Eye damage
- limitations in motion and joint issues
- reduced movement after birth due to excessive muscle tone
Guillain-Barre syndrome and other neurological conditions may also be brought on by the Zika virus.
