Anus (the end of the bowel) cancer is uncommon and affects the anal canal, which is a small tube where feces exits the body at the end of the rectum.

Anal pain and rectal bleeding are two signs and symptoms of anal cancer.

Symptoms of Anal Cancer :

the following are indications of anal cancer:

  • Aneurisms or recti bleeding
  • Anus region discomfort
  • an anal canal growth or mass
  • Anal itching

Causes of Anal Cancer :

Cancer cells invade nearby tissues and can separate from an initial tumor to spread to other parts of the body (metastasize). Anal cancer develops when a genetic mutation transforms normal, healthy cells into abnormal cells. Healthy cells grow and multiply at a set rate, eventually dying at a set time. Abnormal cells grow and multiply out of control, and they don’t die.

The majority of anal cancers have been found to contain HPV evidence, which is thought to be the most common cause of anal cancer. Anal cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) are closely related sexually transmitted infections.

Risk factors

Anal cancer risk has been discovered to be affected by a number of factors, including:

  • Older age.People over the age of 50 account for the majority of cases of anal cancer.
  • Many sexual partners.Over the course of their lives, people who have multiple sexual partners are more likely to develop anal cancer.
  • Anal sex.Anal cancer is more likely to develop in those who have receptive anal sex.
  • Smoking.Your risk of developing anal cancer may rise if you smoke cigarettes.
  • History of cancer.Anal cancer risk is higher in people with a history of cervical, vulvar, or vaginal cancer.
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV).Having an HPV infection, a sexually transmitted disease that can also result in genital warts, raises your risk of developing several cancers, including anal and cervical cancer.
  • Drugs or conditions that suppress your immune system.HIV – the virus that causes AIDS – suppresses the immune system and increases the risk of anal cancer. Immunosuppressive drugs, including those who have had organ transplants, may increase the risk of anal cancer in people who take them. HIV also increases the risk of anal cancer.

Complications

Only a small percentage of tumors are discovered to have metastasized; however, those that do are particularly challenging to treat. Anal cancer that metastasizes most frequently spreads to the liver and the lungs.

Prevention

Anal cancer cannot be completely avoided, but there are steps you can take to lower your risk.

  • Practice safer sex.If you choose to have anal sex, use condoms and practice safe sex to reduce your risk of contracting HIV and HPV, two STIs that may increase your risk of anal cancer.
  • Get vaccinated against HPV.There is an HPV vaccine available that can be given to adults as well as adolescents, including both boys and girls.
  • Stop smoking.Avoid smoking and stop smoking if you already smoke.
