About Vasavaleha

It is an Ayurvedic Avaleha in semi-solid form that is made by first making a Vasaka decoction by boiling its Swaras in water, filtering it, adding sugar, cooking and thickening it, removing it from the stove, and adding pippali churna and ghee to make Vasavaleha. Vasavaleha is typically taken by mouth. It is used to treat productive cough, cold, asthma, and many other bleeding disorders.

Uses of Vasavaleha

Vasavaleha is a mixture of five natural ingredients that are well-known for treating respiratory issues. Arusa or Vasa has expectorant and bronchodilator action. Ayurveda recommends using it for difficult breathing, asthma, and cough. Vasavaleha is a helpful medication for treating all types of coughing, respiratory illnesses, chronic cough, and it also relieves swelling (inflammation) in the airways. It is also given to children with honey, three to four times a day, for kukkur khnasi or whooping cough.

Vasavaleha is also effective in treating bleeding disorders like Raktapitta, Rajayakshma (tuberculosis), Raktapradar, and bleeding piles and dysentery.

Angina pectoris and Parshva shula (intercostal neuralgia and pleurodynia), two additional conditions for which Vasavaleha is recommended.

Dosage of Vasavaleha

  • Before or after meals, 6–12 grams once or twice a day, or as prescribed by an ayurvedic physician.
  • Common dosages include milk, honey, and warm water.
  • One to two grams, once or twice daily, with a teaspoon of honey, warm water, or milk, is the recommended dosage for children under the age of five.
  • 5 grams should be taken once or twice daily with a teaspoon of honey, warm water, or milk for children aged 5 to 12 years old.

Side effects of Vasavaleha

  • These medications don’t have any known side effects.
  • It can occasionally irritate the stomach when taken in extremely high doses.
  • When giving it to diabetics, caution must be taken.
