About Abhayarishta

It is mainly indicated in piles and constipation. Abhayarishta (Abhayarishtam) has mild laxative action, and mild diuretic characteristics. It promotes proper peristaltic movements of the intestine and helps in easier defecation. It is also widely used in the treatment of hemorrhoids and constipation. It contains self-generated alcohol up to 5 to 7%. The alcohol acts as a medium for the active principles of herbs to dissolve.

Benefits & Medicinal Uses For Abhayarishta

Piles (Haemorrhoids)

Abhayarishtam should be used in conjunction with Arshoghni Vati in cases of bleeding piles; in cases of non-bleeding piles, it can be used in conjunction with Kankayan.

Anal Fissure

Constipation and hard stools are the most common causes of anal fissure; in such cases, Abhayarishta is very helpful for eliminating constipation and reducing habit of hard stools; cow’s ghee or almond oil should be consumed in dosage of 1 teaspoon with warm water 30 minutes before taking it.Local application for anal fissure is also necessary; Jatyadi Oil is best for local application because it has the best anti-inflammatory properties.

Constipation

For complete relief from mild constipation, Abhayarishtam alone works very well. Fibre-rich diet should also be included in order to prevent future difficulty with defecation and proper bowel movement. Cow’s ghee or almond oil should be taken with warm water or warm milk 30 minutes before taking it in case of hard stools. It acts on peristalsis muscle, which helps to prevent future constipation problems.

Abdominal bloating

Abhayarishtam contains Haritaki as a main ingredient, which reduces intestinal gas, flatulence, and gaseous cramps in the abdomen. It encourages proper elimination of excess gas from the intestines and checks it further production. In mild cases, it works well on its own and no other medication is needed, but in chronic cases, Arogyavardhini Vati and Lasunadi Vati can also be used in addition to it.

Dosage For Abhayarishta

  • 12 to 24 ml, once or twice a day, and after meals is usually advised.
  • Preparation for consumption can include the addition of an equal amount of water.

Precautions For Abhayarishta

This medication may be taken for a number of months as directed by a physician.

For children over 3 years old, safe in lower doses.

It is imperative to prevent accidental overdosing.

Avoid if possible while pregnant.

After consulting a doctor, it is permissible to take during lactation.

More than 50 ml in a single dose may result in loose stools, stomach upset, and stomach pain.

Avoid using this medication if you’re expecting because it contains the ingredient colocynth, which can lead to abortion.
