YEAST INFECTIONVaginal yeast infection is a very common condition that affects 3 out of 4 women in their lives. It is a naturally occurring fungus that is normally present in the vagina. It usually does not cause problems, but when its growth is unchecked, an uncomfortable infection can result.

Since antibiotics can kill both good and bad bacteria, which are both necessary to control yeast growth, this infection frequently develops during an antibiotic course.

Unpleasant symptoms, such as burning, itching, and lumpy discharge, can be brought on by an overgrowth of yeast in the vagina.

BACTERIAL VAGINOSISWhen symptoms do manifest, they typically include vaginal itching and an abnormal vaginal discharge, which may be dull gray or white, in some cases foamy. Bacterial vaginosis is a condition that, like vaginal yeast infection, is brought on by an imbalance between naturally occurring good and bad bacteria in the vagina.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE—A variety of STDs that can be spread through unsecured sex and cause vaginal itching include:

· Chlamydia

· Genital warts

· Gonorrhea

· Genital herpes

· Trichomoniasis

Additional symptoms that these conditions can produce include unusual growths, green or yellow vaginal discharge, and pain when urinating.

MENOPAUSE—Women who are going through menopause or who have already gone through it are more susceptible to vaginal discharge because menopause causes the mucosa to thin and experience vaginal atrophy, which can result in excessive dryness and itching.

STRESS—Although it is uncommon, physical and emotional stress can itch and irritate the vaginal area. This may happen when the immune system is weakened by stress, which makes it more likely that itchy infections will result.

VULVAR CANCERVulvar cancer may not always cause symptoms, but when they do, they may include itching, unusual bleeding, or pain in the vulvar area. Vulvar cancer may not always cause symptoms, but when they do, they may include vaginal itching in rare cases.
