  • Red eyes
  • eyes that feel scratchy, hot, or stinging
  • Eyelids that appear greasy
  • Itchy eyelids
  • Red, swollen eyelids
  • around-the-eyes skin flaking
  • Crusted eyelashes
  • Eyelid sticking
  • More frequent blinking
  • Sensitivity to light
  • vision blur that typically gets better when you blink

CAUSES OF BLEPHARITIS

Blepharitis may be linked to one or more of the following factors, although its exact cause is unknown and it occasionally spreads to other people:

  • Scalp and brow dandruff are symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis.
  • Infection
  • eyelid oil glands that are clogged or not functioning
  • Redness on the face is a defining feature of the skin condition rosacea.
  • allergies, including those brought on by contact lens solutions, eye medications, or cosmetics for the eyes
  • Eyelash mites or lice
  • Dry eyes

COMPLICATIONS OF BLEPHARITIS

  • Problems with the eyelashes can result from blepharitis and include hair loss, misdirected eyelashes, and eyelash shedding.

  • Eyelid skin issues can result in scarring, the edges of the eyelids turning inward or outward, or even long-term blepharitis.

  • The tear film, or the water, oil, and mucus mixture that forms tears, can become clogged with abnormally oily secretions and other debris shed from the eyelids, such as dandruff-related flaking.

Symptoms of dry eyes or excessive tearing can be brought on by abnormal tear film, which prevents the eyelids from staying moist and irritates the eyes.

  • The result of an infection that appears close to the base of the eyelashes is a painful lump on the edge of the eyelid, which is typically where styes are most noticeable.

  • Chalazion-A chalazion develops when one of the tiny oil glands at the edge of the eyelid, just behind the eyelashes, becomes obstructed, resulting in inflammation of the gland, which causes the eyelid to swell and redden; this inflammation can clear up or transform into a hard, nontender bump.

  • Pink eye (conjunctivitis) attacks can recur as a result of chronic blepharitis.

  • Lack of tears may increase your risk of developing a corneal infection. **Injury to the cornea-**Inflamed eyelids or improperly directed eyelashes can irritate your cornea on a continuous basis, leading to a sore.
