Homeopathy Medicine for Chronic Dacryocystitis

95

Usually a female patient complains of abnormal lachrymation with pain, redness and distension of the lachrymal sac. There is discharge of mucous or a mucopurulent material in the conjunctival sac. The condition is that of CHRONIC DACRYOCYSTITIS.

Symptoms

Acute dacryocystitis signs and symptoms include:

  • The inside corner of your eye is red, swollen, and hurts.
  • watery eye
  • swelling next to the nose in the eye’s outer corner
  • eye redness
  • in the eye’s corner, there is pus or mucus
  • fever

You may notice some discharge from your eye and some tearing, but little to no swelling, which is more typical of chronic dacryocystitis symptoms.

Causes

The blockage in the tear duct, which typically leads to the infection, could be caused by any of the following:

  • A broken nose, for example, or an eye injury
  • nasal polyps are nasopharyngeal growths.
  • sinus inflammation
  • nasal or sinus surgery
  • in the duct, an unfamiliar object
  • cancer

Congenital dacryocystitis, a condition where the tear duct is blocked from birth, is the most common form of dacryocystitis in infants.

As you age, the condition becomes more common, and middle-aged women are more likely than men to have a blockage due to the narrower natural duct.

Dacryocystitis also has additional risk factors, such as:

  • One nostril will be smaller than the other due to a deviated septum, which is an irregularity in the thin wall between your nostrils.
  • Nasal mucous membrane inflammation is known as rhinitis.
  • One of your nose’s bony structures that filters and humidifies the air, called the inferior turbinate, may enlarge or swell.

Prevention

By performing a procedure called a dacryocystorhinostomy to widen the blocked duct, you can stop further infections.

Wash your hands, then place a warm, wet washcloth over the tear sac. Carefully place your finger in the corner of your eye near your nose and apply pressure to the tear sac. Fluid or pus should release from the sac. Then, place the warm compress to your eye once more. If you or your child frequently gets tear duct infections, one way to prevent them is to drain the tear sac.

Complications

Congenital dacryocystitis in infants can cause the infection to spread into the eye socket, which can result in life-threatening complications like:

  • a pus-filled space in the brain known as a brain abscess
  • inflammation of the meningeal membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, or meningitis
  • Sepsis is an infection-related, systemic inflammatory response.

Homoeopathic Treatment:

Acute dacryocystitis is characterized by intense inflammatory reactions in the sac and surrounding tissue, possible abscess formation, and a generalized systemic disturbance in cases of chronic dacryocystitis that are left untreated.

Pulsatilla nigricanshas excessive lachrymation and mucous secretion, weeping eyes, cold-related conjunctivitis that is worse in a warm environment, inflamed and agglutinated lids, and intense itch and burning in the eyes.

Silicea terrais indicated when the lachrymal duct swells, the lachrymal duct becomes strict, the eyes become painful to touch, especially when closed, and there is a sensation of a cold foreign body in the eye.

Agaricus muscariusFits weak eyes that have been overexerted. Tear gland swelling. Lachrymation from smells or on coughing. Pupils that are dilated and sensitive to light, even candlelight. Inner canthi that are red; gum in canthi. Eyelids that itch and agglutinate; a decrease in the space between the eyelids.
