Homeopathy Medicine for Croup

108

An infection called croup results in vocal cord swelling.

Many of the viruses that cause croup also cause the common cold; croup most commonly affects children under the age of five; it most often occurs in damp and cold weather; symptoms include breathing difficulties and a bad cough that sounds like a barking seal.

Types

Viral Croup

Adenovirus, influenza virus A & B, metapneumovirus, and respiratory syncytial virus are other viruses that can cause it. A child may get this infection directly from breathing the air droplets contaminated with cough or sneeze by an infected child. The most common virus that causes it is parainfluenza virus (types 1 and 2). This virus is responsible for infection in about 80% of these cases.

Bacterial Croup

The bacteria involved in these cases include Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Haemophilus influenzae. Although less common but more severe than a viral infection, croup can also be brought on by bacterial infections, which include Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Haemophilus influenzae.

Spasmodic Croup

It occurs suddenly, usually in the middle of the night, and fever is uncommon. This type is thought to be caused by allergies, such as those to pollens or reflux (when the contents of the stomach back flow into the food pipe).

Symptoms

A child will develop the following symptoms of croup if there is enough swelling and coughing:

  • Loud barking cough that worsens as a result of crying, coughing, anxiety, and agitation, creating a vicious cycle of deteriorating signs and symptoms.
  • Fever
  • Hoarse voice
  • noise or difficulty in breathing

The majority of the time, croup symptoms are worse at night and last for three to five days.

Causes

Viruses, most frequently the parainfluenza virus, are typically to blame for croup.

When a child touches a toy or other surface that has been contaminated with virus particles and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth, an infection may result. Child may contract a virus by breathing infected respiratory droplets coughed or sneezed into the air.

Risk factors

Children between the ages of 6 months and 3 years are most susceptible to developing croup, and because of their small airways, they are also more likely to experience more severe croup symptoms.

Complications

The majority of croup cases are mild, but occasionally a secondary bacterial infection of the trachea can develop, causing breathing difficulties and necessitating immediate medical attention.

Hospitalization is only necessary in a small percentage of croup patients who present to the emergency room.

Prevention

Use the same precautions you would to ward off the flu and colds to prevent croup.

  • The most crucial practice is routine hand washing.
  • Away from anyone who is ill, keep your child.
  • Support your child in using his or her elbow to sneeze or cough.

The diphtheria and Haemophilus influenza type b (Hib) vaccines offer protection from some of the rarest but most dangerous upper airway infections. There is not yet a vaccine that protects against parainfluenza viruses. To prevent more serious infections, keep your child’s vaccinations up to date.
