CUTANEOUS SYSTEM

The skin contains two sets of glands, one of these secretes sweat (perspiration) and the other sebum or fat that keeps our skin smooth, soft and velvety. The ‘pores’ which we see on our skin are the mouths of sweat-ducts. Sweat is a watery, alkaline and saltish fluid. In 24 hours we give out about a pint of fluid by our sweat. Places as are subject to considerable wear and tear or become homy and such as are intended to be sensitive are richly studied with specialized nerve-endings called touch-corpuscles, as on palms, fingers, etc.
