Amritarishtam Indications
Fevers & Infections
Amritarishtam is primarily recommended for low grade fevers or chronic fevers in which patients experience fatigue, loss of strength, body pains, loss of interest, and restlessness. It also aids in the mitigation of all these symptoms and aids in the release of toxins (referred to as AMA in ayurveda), which are responsible for the inflammation and occurrence of fever.
Typhoid Fever
Along with other ayurvedic medications, Giloy (Tinospora Cordifolia) in Amritarishta is useful in the treatment of typhoid fever. It also helps in debility that follows typhoid fever and aids in clearing the toxins developed in the body. It inhibits the growth of salmonella typhi bacteria and lowers antigen titer. Its use in conjunction with Vasant Malti Ras can also help
Cough
Amritarishtam eases breathing by widening the airways by causing the muscles in the airways to relax. It also reduces fever associated with respiratory conditions like pneumonia, bronchitis, and laryngitis. It helps to loosen the mucus in the bronchi and bronchioles and aids in its expulsion, relieving congestion in the throat and chest.
Cold
Amritarishtam can effectively treat the common cold by acting as an anti-inflammatory agent, relieving nasal congestion brought on by swelling and an excessive production of mucus in response to the exposure to allergens, and producing an anti-allergic action, which helps to modify the body’s response to the allergens like dust and environmental toxins thus reducing the likelihood of an attack of allergic rhinitis.
Loss of Appetite
Amritarishtam is extremely helpful in cases of poor appetite caused by chronic illnesses or infections because it regulates gastric secretions, stimulates the digestive system, and improves food digestion while lowering AMA formation.
Anemia
Amritarishtam works on RANJAKA PITTA and improves its quality, which helps to increase hemoglobin level. For best results, it can be used in conjunction with Dhatri Loha or Punarnava Mandur. Giloy (Tinospora) has hematogenic action, so Amritarishtam helps to improve the blood formation and increase hemoglobin level in the blood.
Joint disorders
Amritarishtam has been discovered to be effective in the treatment of arthritis. It acts by producing a strong anti-inflammatory action, which reduces swelling and pain in the joints and thereby improves their mobility. It also acts as an antioxidant and prevents damage to the joint tissues caused by free radicals, which increases the longevity of the joints and protects them from age-related wear and tear.
Bile Deficiency & Liver Disorders
Amritarishtam acts as a liver stimulant, which enhances liver functions and enhances food digestion and assimilation. It also increases the secretion of bile from the liver and gall bladder.
Chronic Pruritus (Itchy Skin)
If any of anemia, liver diseases, malabsorption, dry skin, dermatitis, seasonal change, or chicken pox is the cause of chronic pruritus, Amritarishtam helps a lot in treating it by detoxifying the blood, removing toxins from the skin, and improving liver and kidney functions.
Amritarishtam Dosage
- 12 to 24 ml, once or twice a day, and after meals is usually advised.
- Preparation for consumption can include the addition of an equal amount of water.
Precautions For Amritarishtam
- Accidental overdose should be strictly avoided but is safe in lower doses for children older than 3 years old.
Pregnancy and lactation
- Pregnancy is the time to avoid using it as much as possible, but after consulting a doctor, lactation can be handled.
Diabetes
- Jaggery shouldn’t be used in diabetes because it is one of the ingredients.
Hyperacidity
- It should not be consumed if you have ulcers or hyperacidity because of its sour taste.
Ulcers
- If you have ulcers or ulcerative colitis, Amritarishtam may make things worse.
Patients with diabetes are advised to use this medication with caution as it contains jaggery, which can increase blood sugar levels. Amritarishtam is made using natural herbal ingredients, so it does not cause any serious side effects, though it may cause a few minor side effects like gastric irritation when it is used in very high doses.
