Epiphora, a condition marked by excessive eye watering, is caused by inadequate tear drainage from the nasolacrimal system, according to clinical definitions.

Causes of Epiphora :

  • Eye irritation and inflammation
  • The tear outflow tract is blocked.
  • The aging process may be a contributing factor in eye watering.
  • Common Cold.
  • Nasolacrimal duct failure in newborns and young children.
  • After trauma, the nasolacrimal duct system was not properly repaired.
  • Bruises to the soft tissues of the face
  • Ectropion, a condition in which the eyes’ lids turn inward, and ectropion

Signs and symptoms of Epiphora

  • tears in both the eyelashes and cheeks.
  • Red, irritated eyelids.
  • lacrimal duct openings discharge resembling pus.
  • On the inside corner of the eyelid, there is a soft lump and redness.
  • Blurred vision.

Diagnosis of Epiphora :

Clinical observation, medical history, and the appearance of the lids are used to diagnose epiphora.

Usually the management of epiphora is done by surgery:

In infants with nasolacrimal defects, a nasolacrimal duct probe is used and a temporary (Crawford) or permanent (Jones) tube replacement is performed. A surgical procedure called dacryocystorhinostomy is done to join the lacrimal sac to the nasal mucosa in order to restore lacrimal function.

Homeopathic Treatment of Epiphora
