Gastro-esophageal reflux diseaseoracid-reflux diseaseorGERDis a condition where the stomach’s acidic contents flow backward into the esophagus (food pipe), damaging the lining and resulting in symptoms like heartburn and pain.

All people experience some degree of stomach acid reflux, but not everyone goes on to develop GERD. The main reason for this is that only some people have more acidic refluxed fluid that stays in their esophagus for a longer period of time, resulting in GERD. Dietary factors and certain bad habits are frequently to blame for the onset of this condition in people who are prone to developing it.

Lower esophageal sphincter, or LES, is a muscular gateway that connects the esophagus and stomach. Under normal conditions, this sphincter remains tight to prevent the passage of stomach contents back into the esophagus, but when it becomes lax for any reason or is weak, it may open up the passageway and cause irritation of the esophageal lining.

CAUSES OF GERD

The most frequent causes of GERD are the following:

Hiatus Hernia :a condition where the stomach pushes through the diaphragm, the muscle that separates the chest (thoracic) cavity from the abdomen, into the space that is typically occupied by the esophagus.

Abnormal esophageal contractionsWhen the wave of contraction is damaged, the refluxed acid is not pushed back into the stomach and it can harm the lining of the esophagus. Coordinated esophageal contractions cause the forward movement of food from the esophagus into the stomach.

Delayed emptying of the Stomach :Long-term stomach retention of food increases the likelihood of stomach contents reflux because it causes the stomach to be distended for a longer period of time.

In addition, there are a number of other causes of GERD, including the following:

Food preferences: Acidic foods like citrus fruits and tomatoes, spicy foods, foods with mint flavorings, pungent foods, chocolates, garlic, onions, coffee, and other caffeinated beverages.

Habits: Smoking and drinking, as well as bad posture, especially after meals.

Drugs: nitrates, theophylline, calcium channel blockers, and antihistamines.

Large meals and eating right before bed are among one’s eating patterns.

Pregnancy, diabetes, obesity, and rapid weight gain are some additional contributing factors.

Although not specifically connected to, stressGERDthe majority of patients say that under stressful circumstances, their symptoms worsen.

Results vary from patient to patient, but homeopathic treatment has been found to be extremely effective for GERD. The medications are absolutely safe and free from any side effects. The best results in GERD treatment can be achieved if the strategic treatment is targeted at both the roots of GERD and the symptoms.
