The majority of crying is a response to hunger, discomfort (such as that caused by a wet diaper), fear, or separation from parents. Such crying is normal and typically stops when the needs are metβfor example, when infants are fed, burped, changed, or cuddled. After children are 3 months old, this crying tends to occur less frequently and for shorter periods of time.
When a child cries excessively, it’s because their needs are not being met on a regular basis or because their crying is lasting longer than usual.
