Many scientists believe that the cause of Alzheimer’s disease is an increase in the production or accumulation of a particular protein (beta-amyloid protein) in the brain that results in nerve cell death. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a slowly progressing brain disease that is characterized by memory impairment and eventually by disturbances in reasoning, planning, language, and perception.

After the age of 70, there is a significant increase in the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s disease; by the time they are 85 years old, 50% of people may have the condition.

RISK FACTOR OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

In the United States, there are currently 14 million people living with Alzheimer’s disease, with that number expected to rise to 14 million by the year 2050 if no new treatments are developed to reduce the likelihood of developing the disease. Age is the main risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease, and as a population ages, the frequency of the disease increases. 10% of people over 65 and 50% of those over 85 have the disease.

Additionally, there are genetic risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease. While the majority of patients experience the onset of the disease in their 70s, 2% to 5% do so in their 40s or 50s. At least half of these early-onset patients have inherited gene mutations linked to their condition, and the offspring of an early-onset patient with one of these mutations have a 50% chance of also developing Alzheimer’s disease.

In the majority of Alzheimer’s disease cases, however, no specific genetic risks have yet been identified, suggesting that there is a genetic component to late onset Alzheimer’s disease. Late onset Alzheimer’s disease is associated with a relatively common form of a gene located on chromosome 19.

Other risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease include high blood pressure (hypertension), coronary artery disease, diabetes, and possibly elevated blood cholesterol. People with less than eight years of education also have an increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease. These risk factors do not, however, mean that someone with these risk factors will inevitably develop Alzheimer’s disease.

Changes develop in the brain :No one yet knows what causes Alzheimer’s disease; however, most researchers agree that the cause may be a complex set of factors. Though Alzheimer’s disease affects people in their 40s and 50s, studies have shown that the greatest known risk for developing Alzheimer’s is increasing age. As many as 2-4% of all people may be at risk for developing Alzheimer’s.

SYMPTOMS OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

  • Multiple strokes
  • Known for its tremors and mental decline, Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative nerve condition.
  • Overflowing fluid around the brain is known as normal pressure hydrocephalus.
  • B1-B2-B6-pantothenic-acid-deficiency, folic acid, niacin deficiency, biotin deficiency, and cobalamin deficiency are among the vitamin deficiencies that can occur.
  • Thyroid hormone deficiency, or hypothyroidism
  • Alcoholism and drug abuse
  • viral infections, fungi infections, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease are examples of infectious diseases that degenerate the brain.
  • the ingestion of methyl alcohol or carbon monoxide
  • Depression
  • adverse drug reactions or interactions with other drugs
  • Brain tumors

Based on these symptoms and the findings of a number of tests, the clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s can be made with an accuracy of up to 90%.
