About Chalmogra Tail

The tree Hydnocarpus kurzii, which is native to India, Myanmar, and Thailand and is in the Flacourtiaceae family, is known by the common name “Chaulmogra.” In India, this tree is primarily found in the states of Assam and Tripura.

Chaulmogra Oil, which is obtained from the tree’s seeds by pressing the kernels in a hydraulic press, has an unpleasant flavor and a bitter aftertaste. It is made up chemically of the unsaturated fatty acids chaulmogric acid (27%), hydnocarpic acid (48%) and glycerides of palmitic acids. When the seeds are ripe, they contain about 40–45% fixed oil.

Chaulmogra Oil is used both internally and externally to treat leprosy and other skin conditions in Ayurveda, and it has been used for this purpose since the dawn of time. Frederic John Mouat, an English physician and professor of medicine at the Bengal Medical College, introduced this oil into Western medicine in 1854. Mouat tested this oil on leprosy patients and saw positive results. He dressed the patients’ external ulcers with the oil.

Chaulmogra is a tall tree that belongs to the Achariaceae plant family. The essential oil is extracted from the Chaulmogra seeds using the steam distillation method. The botanical names of Chaulmogra are Taraktogenos kurzii, Hydnocarpus kurzii, Hydnocarpus wightiana, Hydnocarpus laurifolia, Hydnocarpus oil, Gynocardia oil, and Tuvrak, Tuvaraka, and
