Cyclic neutropenia is a very uncommon congenital (present from birth) blood disorder that manifests as recurrent infections in the body, such as recurrent fever episodes and mouth ulcers.

Causes of Cyclic Neutropenia
The gene is released when the body tries to fight against any infection in the body, but because they are absent, the bone marrow needs time to replenish the neutrophil supply. This neutrophils deficiency tends to occur every three weeks and lasts for three to six days. Cyclic Neutropenia is caused by autosomal dominant inherited mutations in the ELA2 gene, which is the gene that encodes the gene neutrophils elastase.
Signs and symptoms of Cyclic Neutropenia
After birth, neutropenia episodes start to show up, and the condition typically manifests in cycles that last 3 to 4 days and occur every 21 days.

Investigations
Genetic testing for the ELANE gene should be done on people who have cyclic neutropenia or who are suspected of having it.
The neutrophil count should be checked twice a month, along with other blood tests like the complete blood count, total leukocyte count, and differential leukocyte count.
Treatment of Cyclic Neutropenia
Conventional treatment:
Recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor for neutrophils production (Rhg- CSF), a drug that stimulates the bone marrow, can be used in conjunction with antibiotic therapy to treat recurrent infections. Neupogen (Filgrastim), a medication that has been approved to treat chronic neutropenia, can also be given to patients. genetic testing can be done to determine the patient’s genetic status.
