HOMOEOPATHY FOR HYPERSOMNIA

582

Disorder of excessive somnolence, or DOES, is another name for hypersomnia, which refers to an excessive amount of sleepiness.

· Excessive day time sleepiness

Sleep attacks (unintentional sleepiness) during the day

Sleep intoxication, which prolongs the period before awakening and causes confusion or disorientation.

It is necessary for the diagnosis that the sleep disturbance occurs daily for at least one month or for recurrent periods of shorter duration and that it either causes marked distress or interferes with social and occupational functioning. Hypersomnia is seen in about 1-2% of the general population at any given time. As insomnia and hypersomnia may be present at the same time, the underlying causes may be common to both.
