HOMOEOPATHY FOR TRIGEMINAL NEURALGIA

108

If you have trigeminal neuralgia, a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal nerve that transmits sensation from your face to your brain, even light stimulation of your face, like when you brush your teeth or put on makeup, may cause a sharp pain.

Trigeminal neuralgia affects more women than men, and it’s more likely to happen in people over 50. Initially, you may only experience brief, mild attacks, but as the condition worsens, you may experience longer, more frequent episodes of excruciating pain.

CausesTrigeminal neuralgia, also known as tic douloureux, is a disorder of the trigeminal nerve that typically results from contact between a normal blood vessel, in this case an artery or vein, and the trigeminal nerve at the base of your brain.

Trigeminal neuralgia can be brought on by aging, multiple sclerosis, or another condition that affects the myelin sheath that surrounds some nerves, or, less frequently, a tumor pressing on the trigeminal nerve.

Trigeminal neuralgia may be brought on by a surgical injury, stroke, or facial trauma in some cases, or it may be brought on by a brain lesion or other abnormality in others.

Triggers

Trigeminal neuralgia can be brought on by a number of triggers, including:

· Shaving

· Touching your face

· Eating

· Drinking

· Brushing your teeth

· Talking

· Putting on makeup

· Encountering a breeze

· Smiling

· Washing your face

SymptomsOne or more of the following patterns could be among the symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia:

Periods of intense pain that shoots or stabs and may feel electric shock-like

Pain that comes on suddenly, or that is brought on by actions like speaking, chewing, or even brushing one’s teeth.

Short-term to long-term bursts of discomfort

Multiple attacks in episodes lasting days, weeks, months, or longer; some people experience pain-free intervals during these times.

Less severe than the spasm-like pain, a constant aching and burning sensation

Trigeminal nerve-supplied areas such as the cheek, jaw, teeth, gums, and lips, as well as the eye and forehead less frequently, can experience pain.

One side of the face is only ever in pain at once, with both sides of the face only occasionally being affected.

Pain that is localized or dispersed across a larger area

Attacks that progressively get worse and more frequent.
