If you have trigeminal neuralgia, a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal nerve that transmits sensation from your face to your brain, even light stimulation of your face, like when you brush your teeth or put on makeup, may cause a sharp pain.
Trigeminal neuralgia affects more women than men, and it’s more likely to happen in people over 50. Initially, you may only experience brief, mild attacks, but as the condition worsens, you may experience longer, more frequent episodes of excruciating pain.
