About Zandu Zandopa Powder
An ayurvedic preparation made from the seeds of Mucuna pruriens has a long history of use in Ayurvedic medicine for CNS disorders and as a geriatric tonic. It is also the richest natural source of L-dopa known to science, and it is more readily bioavailable than synthetic L-dopa.
Indication:
Parkinsonism that is idiopathic.
Composition
The seed powder of Kauncha (Mucuna pruriens), which has been standardly processed, weighs 6.525 g in each 7.5gm of flavoring.
Dosage
- NOT FOR MILK CONSUMPTION.
- Add the prescribed amount of powder to a half glass of water (roughly 100ml), stir, and drink right away.
- The powdered form of Zandopa contains approximately 7.5gm (approximately) of L-dopa, which is easily soluble in water.
- It may be suggested to patients who are having trouble swallowing the bulk of the medication to stir the powder in water for almost a minute before straining.
- The patient is then free to consume the clear solution that has been obtained.
SIDE EFFECTS:
- Along with a host of dyskinesias and psychiatric symptoms like agitation, hallucinations, delusions, and nightmares, side effects can include nausea, anorexia, cardiac irregularities, orthostatic hypotension, weight gain, hot flashes, and weight loss.
- With Zandopa, adverse reactions have not been as severe as those reported with synthetic L-dopa formulations.
PRECAUTIONS:
- While prescribing Zandopa, physicians should also abide by all known warnings and restrictions that apply to synthetic L-dopa formulations.
- When starting Zandopa therapy, patients who are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors must stop taking them at least two weeks beforehand.
- When using zandopa for an extended period of time, it is advised to routinely evaluate your kidney, heart, liver, and haematopoietic systems.
- In cases of severe renal, hepatic, or endocrine disease, bronchial asthma, severe cardiovascular or pulmonary disease, peptic ulcer, or persistent narrow-angle glaucoma, zandoxap should be used with caution.
